Biola University
Brand Campaign

 

Biola University is one of the nation’s top Christian universities, located in the heart of Southern California. While the university has been known for its strong vision, values, and community context, there was a need to better define Biola’s brand narrative and elevate perceptions of the university. Additionally, the university was facing a number of challenges that prompted an onus for change, as well as an underlying pressure to liberalize. 

The resulting strategic approach embraced Biola’s steadfast commitment to faith, values, and conviction as a point of difference, rather than shy away from it, alongside “All As One” — the school’s creative platform and brand message. The idea of “All As One” embodies the culture of the institution and Biola’s vibrant community — restless, passionate, and in a constant act of growth, discovery, and becoming what it believes. 

The new Biola brand is distinguished by a look and feel that’s inspirational. Grounded yet purposeful. The tone of voice is that of a spirited storyteller, a teacher, and a poet all wrapped in one. The language is confident and heart-stirring while the art direction is strong and active. Vibrant brand colors and bold type juxtapose true-blue California sky backdrops and peaceful portraiture, all coalescing to feel elevated, energized, and aspirational.

An undergraduate admissions viewbook, a .edu website redesign, and anthem video were key vehicles to the brand’s launch. These paired with a Fall 2017 #AllAsOne ad campaign worked to bolster undergraduate admissions, unpack the narrative across the social and digital platforms. The brand’s refresh led to a boost in undergraduate applications, increased social engagement, and the undergraduate viewbook was recognized by CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) with the Circle of Excellence Award.
